Helping Blind Cats "See" a future

Email us

"Jordan came to PALS about 4 years ago.  He is such a pretty cat that he would get a lot of attention at the shelter from prospective adopters.  But... everyone who took him home,  whether through adoption or fostering, would soon bring him back and tell us of his odd behavior.  His movements are a bit spastic and we had suspicions  of neurological problems, but none were confirmed.  Last year he was returned to us again.  This time he spent a long time in a cage in our shelter.  When a foster family came along we were happy for him to spend time out of  his cage.  We were not really shocked when six months passed and this foster family wanted to return him.  They claimed their other cats were attacking him.

We were shocked and sickened by his condition when he was returned to us.   He was horribly matted, filthy dirty.  His once beautiful coat was caked with dried cat litter and his tail was no longer able to move. He was petrified of  humans. HIs movements were more spastic.  We took him to an ophthalmologists  who confirmed that Jordan has 15% sight.  His vision loss is progressive and  has  been worsening all these years.  The vet attributed this to poor nutrition  when he was a kitten.

We at PALS knew that Jordan could not take the emotional  stress of being adopted and returned again.  Everyone expected Jordan to adapt his behavior to household living... we knew he couldn't do this. He needed a  home that would accept him as he is.

Then I found The Blind Cat Rescue!!  I knew you were full and was hoping for some advice from you and was so  thrilled when you agreed to take Jordan as a new member of your special family!!

After our little 8 hour journey... Jordan is finally home with you and Steffie!  We are so happy he is with you and certainly can never thank you enough!!"

JORDAN

When PAL contacted us they told us that they knew it was time to make a serious decision about Jordan.  He is about as unadoptable as a cat can get so they need to find a sanctuary such as ours to take him or euthanize him.  After they told me his whole story I agreed to make room for him.  This cat did not deserve to die because of the things horrible humans had done to him!!

Jordan is starting to come around, he has to learn that humans are good
and that he is safe and we will not harm him. We took him to the vet and got his teeth taken care of and had his terribly matted coat completely shaved off... he looks so much better!! He so wants to be loved, he is  just
very afraid.   He likes to be pet but is ready to flee every second.
Jordan has a very sad story....We were contacted by a rescue in Pennsylvania looking for a safe blind cat that has had a very hard time and had become unadoptable for a convential home...I will let Mary Jean from the rescue tell his story below.... She drove him to us from Pennsylvania.
11/17/2007  Jordan passed away during a severe seizure.  We wish we had had longer to get to know him.
