Here we grow again!!

We are very excited to begin building our new building!  This building will be 48 feet long x 40 feet wide.  and will have housing for 48 cats!

The land  will be cleared on March 6 & 7 (weather permitting), and then truck loads of dirt will be brought in to level it.  The building should be erected  in the first 2 weeks of April.   We will add pictures here as the work starts.    Update: Weather has not cooperated, the building is supposed to be delivered May 7 (fingers crossed!!)

It will have space for storage of  supplies (i.e. blankets, beds, litter, food etc) and space for a washer for cleaning all the cats beds etc.

The house will be laid out so even on cold wet, rainy days like we are having today (March 1, 2009)  they will be able to go out on their patios.  Each cat house will have its own outside garage door that can be raised during beautiful weather to allow lots of sunlight and fresh air in and closed during bad weather  but still allowing them out onto the patio.  They will of course also have heat and cooling.

The old houses will be used: 1 for new healthy arrival quarantine,  1 for our hospital for anyone sick and in 2010 we will be accepting a very small limit number of  healthy FEL+ cats in the last one.  FEL+ cats are killed as fast as blind cats if not faster in shelter enviorments.  Which is sad because if they are still healthy they can have several good years of quality of life before they become ill.

 Finally,  house going up!

Clearing the land

Amazing how flat you can get 17 huge truck loads of dirt!

Finally it is moving in day!  We want to thank all of our wonderful donors, sponsors, eBay Giving Program, Missionfish and the wonderful cats and woman from Catster for making this possible!

We had some wonderful help moving everyone in.  Jody & Her husband Danny from the catster group arrived with a truck load of goodies from the wonderful members of the catster group!  They donated a new tree, beds, food, toys and other items to help make the new house comfortable for the cats!   You can read Jody's account of the day at :  http://www.catster.com/cats/1006103

We had Sharon, our wonderful corporate sponsor on hand and 2 new volunters Dawn & Zack on hand to help.  The fun begins,  bringing everyone from the old houses and putting them into the right room in the new house.    I wish we had gotten more pictures!

Cats on the move.
Work is all done!!  Now time to relax, visit and sit with the cats!

And the same area with supplies in it :)
Penny loves to be up and figured it out pretty fast.
Keep in mind, she is both blind and deaf.
