FeLV Positive
Gender: Male
Approximate age: 3 years old
Arrived From: Lexington, NC
Arrival Day: 1-15-2024
This handsome leukemia-positive chap comes to us from Lexington, NC.
Lucky for him he was noticed as a new stray by two amazing women who feed
and get vet care for the stray cats in their area. They began to feed BJ and he
walked right in one of their homes! He was clearly not a stray but had been
around people before. They took him to the vet and when he tested positive they
knew he needed a safe place to go. Because of his condition, he had to live in a
bathroom away from non-positive cats, which is not ideal, so his caretaker was
thrilled when we could take him here. They really wanted the absolute best for
him and both wonderful women drove him down to us! BJ is a wonderfully friendly
and loving cat who loves to give head bonks and always seems to have his little
tongue poking out. We had BJ fixed and he’s recently started taking supplements
to keep his kidneys and heart healthy.
5/2024 Bob Jr. (BJ) was noticed in the litter box straining and it was evident he
was constipated. He was taken to the vet and was diagnosed with IBD.
(Inflammatory Bowel Disease)
With help from the staff, he’s adjusting to his new life in House 2, Room 1!

Dear Supporters,
It is with deep heartbreak and heavy hearts that we share news we never expected to write for
a while. Our beloved BJ has unexpectedly passed away.
Just recently, BJ had a full vet checkup and received a clean bill of health. He showed no
signs that anything was wrong. But today, shortly before our 3pm tour began, one of our staff
members noticed BJ lying on his side. As she approached, she noticed something was wrong.
Alyson came in and immediately scooped him up and rushed him to the vet. I was already
there picking up another cat. But by the time they arrived, BJ had already crossed the rainbow
bridge.
We don’t have a definitive answer as to what happened, but the most likely cause was a
sudden heart attack or another sudden cause. We know how hard it is not to have answers.. we
feel that pain too. He left this world surrounded by love.
BJ had a beautiful morning. He enjoyed a break from the heat thanks to early cooling
showers. He basked in his daily fluffing session during grooming, something he always
looked forward to. Showing us his daily classic bleps that we all knew and loved. He felt the
love and attention from all of you during our noon tour, receiving his belly rubs, and he even
spent time with a new volunteer, showing her just how much love FeLV+ cats have to give.
BJ was truly special, gentle, affectionate, and deeply loved. We know how much he meant to
you, and we’re so sorry you are receiving this devastating news. Thank you for loving him
from afar and making his days full of comfort and care. Because of your support, BJ lived his
life in safety, surrounded by people who cherished him.
We will miss him more than words can express.
With deepest sympathy,
Sam
