FeLV Positive Gender: Male Approximate age: 5 years (As of 2024) Arrived From: Raleigh, NC Arrival Day: 2-08-2024
Fig was found in the streets of Raleigh. He was then taken in by a wonderful rescue that is able to find forever homes for those that are deemed “unadoptable”. They have been able to adopt out FeLV+ cats but Fig was a special case. He is an Escape Artist. No fault to his fosters but this boy is incredibly talented and longs to be outside. The Rescue was having a hard time finding a forever home that could safely secure him and provide an outdoor space for him to help ease the urge of needing to escape to enjoy the outdoors. Fig is a big guy! An extremely large stature cat! He is beyond sweet and has the softest meows. He is settling in nicely and we have opened up the catio in quarantine and he is in high heaven!

Dear Supporters, It is with our deepest condolences that we inform you all that our sweet Fig Newton has passed over the Rainbow Bridge. Staff had noticed he was warm and looked slightly pale in his face yesterday morning so we immediately took him to the vet to get him checked out. During the drive, Fig was talking up a storm and we had a wonderful early morning conversation about the weather. After getting checked in and starting him on fluids, his blood work came back. Fig had no red blood cells and was circling the drain. A second round of blood work showed the same thing, no improvement. Our guy was ready to cross the Rainbow Bridge. I got to hold him as he looked out the window, still showing some curiosity about the outside. Although Fig Newton was only here with us for a few months, he made his mark here at Blind Cat Rescue. He came to us from a rescue in Raleigh, NC, and being leukemia-positive, they were having some trouble getting him into the perfect home. Their application for him was more strict due to being leukemia positive, but also due to him being the biggest door runner. Taking Fig in was a dream place for him. He got to know great love and kindness and also got to thoroughly enjoy the catio and his harness walks. Being leukemia-positive, you never know how long you'll get with them, but the time spent with them, getting to love and be loved by them, is always worth it in the end. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts here at Blind Cat Rescue, for making it possible to have provided Fig with the best love and care here. We will miss our talkative boy and all he had to say. Thank you, Alyson
