Look at how much she has grown!
Kirby
FeLV+ Gender: Female Approximate age: Arrived From: Sarasota, Florida Arrival Day: December 2023 This tiny FeLV+ sweetheart came to us from Sarasota, Florida, where she was found living as a barn kitty. When she was rescued, she weighed only 1 pound and 13 ounce, was very anemic and a bad case of hookworms. An amazing and compassionate woman took Kirby and was determined to get her healthy again and to find her a safe place to live. She was very successful! Not only did she nurse her back to health and show her love, she also drove her to us from Sarasota! This little one has stolen every heart already and is really enjoying her life at BCR, especially playing and eating! You can watch her on our LIVE cameras 24 hours a day in House 2, Room 4.
Dear Kirby's Supporters, It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we share the news that our beautiful girl, Kirby, has crossed the rainbow bridge. Just days ago, she was her usual sweet and talkative self. Over the weekend however, we noticed something wasn’t right when she showed no interest in breakfast. Given the symptoms and our past experience with FIP, we acted immediately and began our protocol in guidance with our Vetenarian until we could bring her to the vet office first thing this morning. After running bloodwork on her, it was discovered that Kirby was severely anemic, no white or red blood cells present, and unfortuantely not a good candidate for a blood transfusion. With how sudden this had all happened, we knew that the best thing for her was to help her peacefully cross over the rainbow bridge. Kirby’s story began far from here, in Sarasota, Florida, where she was found living in a barn. A tiny girl, weighing just over a pound, and battling parasites and anemia. From the very beginning, she was surrounded by compassion. From her dedicated rescuer to the love and care she received once she arrived with us, Kirby came to know a life filled with kindness. Because she was so small when she first arrived, Kirby stayed in the lobby with us, where she quickly became part of the daily rhythm and captured the hearts of everyone she met. She had a way about her, gentle yet full of personality. Once she was big enough to join the others, the Citrus Gang welcomed her with open paws, folding her seamlessly into their orange trio. Together, they played, explored, and curled up for long, peaceful naps. Kirby made Room 4 her own, filling it with her quirky charm and unmistakable spirit. Though we were only given a little over three years with her, it was enough time to watch her grow, to giver her many nicknames, and to fall completely in love with the special soul she was. Kirby brought joy, laughter, and warmth into our lives every single day, and her absence will be deeply felt. We will forever cherish the memories she gave us and hold her close in our hearts. Thank you all for your continued support, for making the work we do here possible, and for helping give Kirby the joyful, love filled life that every cat deserves. Alyson
