Miso
12/18/2023 Miso came to us from another rescue in Asheville, NC. She was found in the streets of Madison County. The rescue pulled her from the shelter thinking she was a senior cat. Their rescue is focused on finding homes for seniors. After arriving to her foster home she started having blind seizures. They of course took her to the vet to find out she was pregnant with 1 kitten! They did an emergency C-section and her kitten went to another foster home but passed a few days later. Miso’s seizures had gotten better but she was still having recurring micro seizures. Miso is a very messy eater due to her neurological state. She is not incontinent but does have trouble using/or finding the litter box. The rescue was not prepared for this type of care and wanted her to go somewhere who could. During her transport she had another seizure so instead of coming to the sanctuary she went straight to the vet. During her four day stay at the vet we did blood work to see if she there was a reason for her not being able to gain weight. Our first thought was being Hyperthyroid. Everything came back okay! So we have her on a high calorie diet currently. We switched her seizure medication to phenobarb and and also using steroid treatment. After starting her on pred she can see! She will be getting a CT scan soon to see if she has a brain tumor. If not, she is probably a CH kitty like Bunny!
12/26/2023 Miso came to us last week from Asheville, NC after she had been living with her foster mom since August. She was pulled from animal control in Madison County after being found living on the streets. Her foster home tried very hard for Miso to have a very good life with her, but they knew as the months went on with no adoption interests, that she needed a home that could better suit her needs. She was blind, having seizures, and wasn't fully using the litter box. We took her on hoping to get her seizures under control and give her a good life here at BCR. On the way back she had a seizure in the car so she was immediately taken to the vet. She was started on a new medication to hopefully help control the seizures and got to come home. We got her sight back and she had a crazy appetite, she gained over half a pound! Although we got her sight back, the seizures were still there. It had gotten to the point of no control and Alana and the vet had to make a quality-of-life call. Our vet agreed that it was the best option for Miso and that it was most likely something deeper causing the seizures. We are getting a necropsy done to see the root cause of them. Although Miso wasn't with us very long, we are incredibly grateful that we got to know and love her. Her little taps across the lobby always made the staff smile. Miso would also follow you closely trying to get you to give her more pate. Pate was her favorite. We cannot thank you all enough for all of the love and support you gave to Miso in such a short amount of time. We only wish we could have had more time with her. I am sorry. Alyson
