Boots
8/2020 Boots came to us from animal control in Miami. Thanks to our fly angel Davica who flew him first class to us and our ground Angel Jill who drove him 2 hours to us, he came to be safe here. He is both blind and leukemia positive. The shelter vet at Miami shaved his whiskers off when they did his eyes. What were they thinking!! He is very sweet. He acts like he has never seen food in his life. He sure has a very healthy appetite.
Blood work shows he is very anemic. We do not know if that is from the leukemia or from parasites. He is under medical care and we hope that we can get him healthier.

Update: He has gained weight and is adjusting well.
2/22/2021 Boots came to us from Animal Control in Miami 4 months ago.  He was both blind & leukemia positive.   That is pretty much a death sentence when you are in animal control.  He got lucky and Davica arranged for him to be sprung and flew him to us.  Jill met Davica at RDU and drove 2 hours to bring him to us.    Boots has had health issues and was anemic when he arrived. 2 weeks ago he began having seizures.  He was hospitalized for a few days to try to get him stabilized.  He was also still anemic.  The leukemia was clearly in charge.   Yesterday he was just not doing well, had a 105 temp. We returned to the vet. Lots of tests were done, an ultrasound, x-rays, blood work, and the vets were still not sure what we were dealing with.  His condition continued deteriorating, his lungs were filling with fluid.  He was in respiratory distress, panting breathing. The vets and I discussed our options. I could take him to Raleigh but we did not think he would survive the 2-hour drive and would be suffering horribly during it or we could let him go.   Something bad was going on that started his seizures and deterioration and we knew in our hearts, with him being leukemia positive we were not going to win. We choose to let him go.  I held him in my arms as he went over the rainbow bridge. He was a nice kitty.  He loved Skyer and would follow her around like a puppy until she picked him up.  We wish we had been able to give him longer.
