Cassie
Blind
Gender: Female
Approximate age:
Arrived From: St. Pauls, NC
Arrival Day: 2009
Cassie had a very rough start in life. She was discovered at
a local trash dump when our founder, Alana, and her daughter
were dropping off some trash. There was a group of feral cats
living at the dump that BCR was feeding and and trying to get
fixed and Cassie showed up with the group. When they
approached her, when was frightened and tried to run away
but got tangled in the fence. They discovered that poor Cassie
had no eyes and took her right to the vet. It was clear she
wasn’t a feral cat so it’s possible she was dumped there by an
owner who didn’t want a blind cat. Even with all that, Cassie
was in good health other than an eye infection and worms,
both of which were treated right away. In 2012 she began
experiencing infection in her eye sockets so the decision was
made to close them up. Cassie was super shy and afraid of
most people for a long time. When Uncle Fester joined her
room some new BCR magic took over and she has relaxed
so much and lets people pet her. She is a very sweet and
loving cat!

Dear Supporters,
December has already been an incredibly difficult month for Blind
Cat Rescue, and it breaks our hearts to share even more sad news.
With deep sorrow, we must let you know that our sweet Cassie has
crossed over the rainbow bridge. This morning, when we were
gathering the cats for a routine vet day, we noticed Cassie was
labored breathing. She went to the vet and after X-rays, we were met
with imaging that she had cancer. It leaves us feeling hopeless when
we find out this way. She was just at the vet in september where
bloodwork was normal, her new thyroid medication dose was
mainating and her heart diagnostics were comparable to earlier this
year. Although we cannot be prepared for everything we try our best
to. She had a lump removed last September that came back with
cancerous cells but since it was removed before they were
concerned, it may be bone cancer. Because of you she has
blossomed and has known what love and forever is.
Cassie was part of our lives for 16 beautiful years. From the moment
she was a tiny, helpless kitten rescued from a fence at the county
dump by Alana and her daughter, to her final days as a gentle senior
cat, she was deeply loved every step of the way. While we may
never know what those first few difficult weeks of her life were like
before she was found, we take comfort in knowing that every day
after was filled with safety, warmth, and an endless amount of love
and light.
We promised her forever, and we kept that promise.
Alana and Sam
