Tom
FIV+ Gender: Male Approximate age: 8 years old Arrived From: Greensboro, North Carolina Arrival Day: August 12, 2025
Tom’s journey is one of heartbreak, survival, and second chances. This handsome 8-year-old FIV+ boy once belonged to a family who, sadly, left him behind when they moved. Unneutered and on his own, Tom had to learn how to survive the hard way. He found himself living in a cat colony on the grounds of a high school, where life was anything but easy. When a devoted cat advocate returned to visit her old school, she was horrified to find the colony starving, cold, and mistreated — including sweet Tom. Determined to help, she began feeding the colony and fighting for their safety, despite the pushback she received. She soon learned Tom’s story and discovered that beneath his rugged exterior was a once-loved house cat who desperately deserved another chance. Most of the colony was safely relocated to a feral sanctuary, but Tom was too friendly to spend his life outdoors. He was destined for something more. Before he could begin that new chapter, Tom needed a major dental surgery. A kindhearted veterinarian donated her time and skills to give him the care he needed,  but recovery was tough. He spent a month at the vet’s office, becoming withdrawn and fearful due to the noise and chaos around him. The rescuer found a foster who was supposed to help him heal emotionally, but heartbreakingly, Tom was neglected again. Still, his rescuer never gave up on him. She was determined to find Tom the true forever home he had always deserved. When she reached out to Blind Cat Rescue, we knew we had to help. But before he could call BCR home, true to his adventurous nature, he managed to escape his enclosure,  leading to a summer-long mission to safely trap him.Tom arrived at BCR with a lot of emotional wounds, but through love, patience, and time, Tom is finally learning that he’s home for good. Every day, he grows a little more confident and shows us glimpses of the charming, suave boy he’s always been. His story is a beautiful reminder that no matter how rough life gets, kindness and persistence can change everything. Welcome home, Tom
